"Pencils in the Wind" was featured in the episode Yoko and is performed by Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement.
Summary[]
Pencils in the Wind (also known as "Sellotape") is a heartfelt ode to the similarities between love and adhesive tape — generically referred to as Sellotape in many countries including New Zealand. It begins with Bret and Jemaine singing separately and in different locations — using split screen — and ends with most of the cast (Coco, Mel and Dave) and a large chorus of extras singing together in a night-time street scene, and concludes with Bret and Jemaine rising from the ground, in a similar manner to the end of Grease and the music video for "It's Oh So Quiet" by Björk.
Lyrics[]
Lyrics for Pencils in the Wind from Yoko Love is like a roll of tape / It's real good for making two things one / But just like that roll of tape / Love sometimes breaks off before you were done Another way that love is similar to tape / That I've noticed / Is sometimes it's hard to see the end / Bret - You search round the roll / Jemaine - You search round the roll / Bret - You search round the roll / Jemaine - Your searching round the roll / Bret - You search round the roll / Jemaine - You search / With your fingernail / Again and again / And again and again / And again / Wo Owo Brown paper, white paper / Stick it together with the tape / The tape of love / The sticky stuff Brown paper, white paper / Stick it together with the tape / The tape of love / The sticky stuff / Oohh oohhoo People people / Paper paper / Paper paper / People people / People people / Pencil pencil / Pencil pencil / Paper paper / Put the pencil to the paper / Give the paper to the people / Let the people read about the sello tape, O Baby Baby / Yeaha You know Jemaine, I've been thinking about love / And I guess it's the very strongest adhesive. Oh sorry, Bret. Were you talking to me? I was humming. / What did you say? / Oh, doesn't matter Brown paper, white paper / Stick it together with the tape / The tape of love / The sticky stuff / Yeah / Ooh brown / Brown paper, white paper / Stick it together with the tape / The tape of love / Stick it / Stick it together / Stick stick, stick it together / Ye-yeah |
